This Fall started with difficulty for me. My dad had been sick for 3 years and his health had begun to decline the beginning of October. He decided that it was time to go hang out with Jesus during that month.
I was given full responsibility of taking care for Daddy's affairs. I spoke to my seven brothers and sisters often that month. I explained to them the little things that the Granger ISD school staff, the Crosspointe family, the community of Granger and Wesleyan Nursing Home had done to help and support my family during this time. Every one of their responses was the same. We don't understand what that is like. We don't have that here. No one has done anything for us.
At this time of Thanksgiving, I want to say Thank You. I work with most of your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins to teach them how to be part of a community. I love that Granger is accepting and a great role model for our kids. I can't imagine not having the support given in times of sadness and celebration.
For those in communities that feel like you don't belong, get out and give to the community. Get out and get to know your neighbor. Good old fashion values still exist. We have to be willing to remember what they are and put them into practice. Happy Thanksgiving.
