Holland Middle School students and teachers "hit the ground running" last Monday.

Their first day back from Christmas break was spent adjusting to new schedules, remembering old routines and catching up with classmates and performances of the Middle School One-Act Play for students throughout the district.

On Tuesday, Lyn Smith, a Prevention Specialist at the Central Texas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, spent the morning reviewing tobacco and its consequences and the OAP cast and crew spent the evening at Temple College for an introduction to their stage, lights and sound.

Thursday, seventh and eighth grade basketball resumed. The girls traveled to Milano and the boys hosted Milano in the Holland gym.

Friday, OAP cast and crew left town early for an 8:00 a.m. practice with competition that afternoon. They returned home with trophies for First Place Play and Best Crew. Each student received a medal for First Place Play.  Additional medals awarded to HMS students included Honorable Mention All-Star Cast members, All-Star Cast members and Best Actor!

Saturday, the HMS basketball teams competed in tournaments in Holland and Troy. The Holland girls claimed first place in the eighth grade bracket and second place in the seventh grade bracket of the Holland Junior High Girls Tournament. The Holland boys claimed second place in the eighth grade bracket and third place in the seventh grade bracket of the Troy Junior High Boys Tournament.

It has been a very busy and exciting start to our Spring semester!
