George Lad Martinka, 81, passed away November 23, 2008 at his home in Alice.
He was born April 17, 1927 in Granger, Texas to Frank and Mary Martinka. George retired as a jeweler after more than 50 years. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Alice and the Knights of Columbus Council #2992. Mr. Martinka served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. George was a avid fisherman and enjoyed vegetable gardening and playing dominos.
Survivors include four daughters, Joann Irving and husband Pat of Bastrop, Lisa Pace and husband David of Red Bluff, Ca., Cindy Ferguson and husband Jaime of El Campo, and Laura Russell and husband Charlie of Bridgeport; two sons, Raymond (Freddie) Martinka of Mesquite and Mark Martinka of Alice; four sisters, Mary Kuba of Attair, Tracy Gillian of Weir, Martha Kaderka of Granger and Agnes Polasek of Shiner; five brothers, Paul Martinka of Georgetown, Cyril Martinka of Rhode Island, Joe Martinka of Marble Falls, Bill Martinka of Chicago, Illinois and Henry Martinka of Bartlett; and 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be Friday, November 28, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger.
Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Granger.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church Building Fund in Granger.
